R.I.P. Ringo Starr (7 July 1940 - June 3 1964)
The Beatles became a worldwide phenomenon in 1964. They were successful and were topping the charts. Their newest album, Beatles for Sale, was completed and almost ready to be released. The Beatles basked in the glory. Until one day, everything changed. Ringo visited a zoo in Liverpool. A parade for the Beatles was occurring, featuring a large elephant named Jeremy, and Ringo felt obliged to join it. He hopped on a bicycle and started to ride with the parade people. He was witty and full of charm in his final moments, witnesses at the scene said. He accidentally hit a bump in the road near the walrus exhibit, and this caused him to fall off his bike. He was in pain as he had twisted his ankle in the wrong way. Before he could get up, and elephant came charging towards him. Unable to get up, the elephant had trampled him. His injuries were very severe, and he was rushed to the hospital and put into a coma. By then, many of his internal organs had been squashed, and this caused much internal bleeding. He lasted less than a day in the coma. After John heard the news, he rushed to the hospital, but by the time he got there, Ringo had died. He was pronounced dead at 5:02 A.M. on June 3, 1964.
Agents of Britain's MI5 were at the hospital when he died. They had told John to "keep his mouth shut" and told the rest of the doctors there to not speak a word of the incident. They said that if fans knew that Ringo had died and the Beatles would break up, "a rash of suicides" would follow. John and M15 had made an agreement not to tell a word to anyone except Ringo's family and the other Beatles. The Beatles knew that they could not continue without Ringo. When the other three Beatles had a meeting to decide what to do, John had an idea. He said that they should hold a look-a-like contest to see who could replace Ringo. Before the contest was held, however, the Beatles were launching a tour. Cancelling the tour would have caused too much suspicion - so they acted and said that Ringo had come down with acute tonsillitis, and that Jimmie Nicol would fill in for him until the contest was held. The contest was finally held - and a man named Timothy Moyd had won.
Timothy Moyd did not look exactly like Ringo, and in order to fool fans, he had to have plastic surgery in order to look like him. Over time and many many surgeries, he had looked like the old Ringo. John decided to put album cover clues and lyrical clues in the songs, an inspiration from a book. M15 were on their tail end, however. After placing clues in Help! and Rubber Soul, M15 got suspicious. They told the Beatles not to do so, or they would be killed. John however ignored these, and continued to place some in Revolver and Sgt Pepper. The M15 got extremely suspicious, and they injured the Beatles as a threat. John decided after this to put stop putting clues on the cover art. The White Album is completely white so the message would be impossible to be hidden. However, John used backwards music to tell the clues.
After much distress since the death of Ringo back in 1964, in 1969 the Beatles were finally breaking apart. The "Get Back" sessions were evident of this. Timothy was upset with the Beatles that his songs were not making albums. He was previously a poet before his brush with the Beatles. He also complained of not having any vocal leads on the Let It Be album. He quit the band for a week, but he came back. In autumn 1969, the band decided to break up after their album "Abbey Road" was released. Timothy "Ringo" Moyd had a moderately successful solo career, something that the actual Ringo could not have done. Timothy continues to tour the world using the name Ringo. No one has ever suspected that it was a body double... until now.
